13 Exhibitions
13 & ...13 were both exhibitions I curated in 2020. 13 showcased the work of 13 up and coming Norwich creatives and was housed in The Crypt Gallery in Norwich on the 13th of March. This was a really exciting project for me and something I had never done before. It was so much fun to work with different artists and designers and the chance to meet together in one place. The week after this exhibition the UK went into lockdown.
13 weeks later I decided to revisit the artists and to see how they were all doing during lockdown and asked them if they were able to remain creative at this time. After speaking to many of them I decided to try and attempt to bring us together once again through a virtual exhibition, alongside inspiring interviews with all of them. You are able to visit that here.
Visuals and marketing all created by myself.

Has lock down context featured in your actual content of your work?
In a way, yes, in the form of repetition. Having much more time on my hands I found myself craving creative activities and making the time to sit down and draw- sometimes the whole day. I work from still life’s that I arrange. This is a great way to improve your drawing skills and teach yourself to really see what’s in front of you. I have kept a sketchbook during lockdown and found myself returning to the same objects to draw. This has been great to see my progression. Spring is my favourite month because of all the lovely flowers and not being able to appreciate it fully was disappointing. On my walks during lockdown I would often pick some to draw and fill our house with.
The Ever-growing Blanket
Longevity is the focus of everything I design. I am driven by the possibilities of creating new heirlooms and this simplistic project is nothing different. Helping a friend recently on her first crochet project, a blanket for her new niece, we opted for the classic granny square design and watched as it grew with every new row. You can choose to do this same continuous project adding new rows to the blanket as the child grows. As the child becomes older they can have more say in the colours you add, becoming a project that you both share.
Mine is knitted with a CoopKnits sock yarn using a 3mm needle.
